Do I need council approval to remove a tree on my property?
It depends on the tree’s size, species, and your local council regulations. On the Northern Beaches, trees over certain heights or within significant tree registers typically require approval. We’ll assess your tree and advise whether a permit is needed before any work begins. For urgent safety concerns, different rules may apply.
How much does it cost to remove a large tree in my backyard?
Tree removal costs vary based on height, access, proximity to structures, and disposal requirements. A typical residential removal ranges from $800 for small trees to $5,000+ for large, complex jobs. We provide free quotes and can often offer cost-effective alternatives like pruning or canopy reduction if full removal isn’t necessary.
What's the difference between tree lopping and proper pruning?
Lopping involves indiscriminate cutting that can permanently damage trees and create safety hazards. Proper pruning follows Australian Standards (AS 4373-2007), removing specific branches to improve structure, health, and appearance while maintaining the tree’s natural form. We only use qualified arborists who understand tree biology and follow best practices.
Can you remove the stump or will it be left behind?
We offer complete stump grinding services to remove stumps below ground level, typically 200-300mm deep. This prevents regrowth, eliminates trip hazards, and frees up your space for landscaping or construction. Stump grinding can be done immediately after removal or scheduled separately if you’re undecided.
My tree looks sick – can it be saved or does it need removing?
Most tree health issues can be resolved with proper diagnosis and treatment. Our arborists will assess for diseases, pest infestations, root damage, or environmental stress. We’ll recommend treatments like targeted pruning, soil improvement, or pest management before suggesting removal. Sometimes the healthiest option is removal, but we’ll always explore alternatives first.
How close to power lines can you safely work?
We’re fully qualified to work near powerlines and hold all necessary certifications for high-risk tree work. For trees touching or within falling distance of powerlines, we coordinate with Ausgrid when required and follow strict safety protocols. Never attempt this work yourself – it’s the leading cause of tree-related fatalities.
Do you handle tree services for strata complexes and commercial properties?
Absolutely. We service body corporates, councils, schools, and commercial sites across the Northern Beaches. We understand compliance requirements, work around operational hours, provide detailed documentation for strata managers, and can manage ongoing maintenance contracts. Civil projects including street tree management are also within our scope.
What's included in your tree maintenance service?
Regular tree maintenance includes canopy thinning to reduce wind resistance, deadwood removal for safety, structural pruning to prevent limb failure, and clearance pruning away from buildings and powerlines. We recommend annual inspections for most properties, with maintenance every 2-3 years depending on tree species and growth rates.
How quickly can you respond to storm damage or emergency tree removal?
We offer 24/7 emergency response for dangerous trees threatening property or blocking access. During storm events, we prioritise immediate safety hazards and typically respond within hours. Non-urgent storm damage is usually scheduled within 2-3 days. Our team is equipped to handle complete emergency scenarios including SES liaison when required.
Are your team completely insured and what qualifications do your arborists hold?
We carry $50 million public liability insurance and full workers’ compensation coverage. Our team includes AQF Level 3 qualified arborists, certified chainsaw operators, and elevated work platform specialists. All work complies with Australian Standards and WHS regulations. We’re happy to provide certificates of currency and qualification documentation for commercial and civil projects.
